The "local" variety of Chile, since in its native region, Bordeaux, Carmenere is now almost extinct, while it holds up well in the Latin American country. For years, Chileans thought they had planted Merlot, until a French vintner opened their eyes. Carmenere, compared to Merlot, is a little more vegetal, a little less chocolatey but just as soft in the mouth. Errazuriz are among the meters of the genre and are among the first producers to say "Carmenere or death". Rich and full. Blueberries, soy, roasted red pepper, coffee, vanilla. In the mouth it is rich and velvety.
